United States History & Government 11 Honors

COURSE CONTENT  The course includes the study of geography, history, and culture of the United States of America. American history from the colonial period to present day will be covered, with an emphasis on the impact of the U.S. Constitution. 

CLASS MATERIALS Students are required to bring to class materials which include textbook, notebook, notes and pen. 

HOMEWORK    Homework is assigned regularly. This includes readings, essay writing, and studying. Written homework may be made-up ONE day following  return from a legal absence, or one day after the assigned day for partial credit. 

TESTS                          Tests and/or quizzes are generally given weekly. Tests are based on notes, worksheets, and class discussions. Students will be given ample notification of testing dates, so they can organize and plan their work. 

MAKE-UP WORK      When students are absent they are expected to obtain work that has been completed in class. It is their responsibility to do so. 

PROJECTS                  Projects will be assigned throughout the school year. The projects are designed to help students develop their research, writing, communication, and thinking skills. Students will be reading books related to the course content (ONE per quarter) 

GRADING                    Quarterly grades will be computed as follows: 1/3 homework, class work and participation (which includes attendance in class); 2/3 tests and projects. 

NYS TEST                    All students must take the United States History & Government NYS Regents Examination.
